A brand new building, housing both the French and the German embassies, was presented to the press and to the diplomatic community on Sunday 9 July 2017, jointly by French Ambassador Sophie Aubert and German Ambassador Thomas Prinz. The new shared premises are located in Baridhara, 11 Madani Avenue.

The project, that lasted 5 years, was a ’première’ worldwide for France and Germany. The new premises already serve as a workplace for French and German diplomats as well as for their locally recruited Bangladeshi colleagues. The two missions provide integrated services including security and consular services.

“It’s a very important day…This beautiful building is a consequence of the long-lasting friendship between our two countries, and of a shared desire to explore all the opportunities to strengthen our bilateral relations,” said French Ambassador Sophie Aubert.

Her German homologue, Thomas Prinz, declared that the two embassies planned about construction of the building together, built the building together and moved to the new office together : "It is not mere sharing of a building. Remaining together when other countries in hotspots around the world still consider their neighbours as ‘arch enemies‘ has political importance."

A good number of foreign diplomats, including ambassadors and high commissioners of Japan, Korea, Pakistan, Philippines, Thailand attended the function.

Foreign Ministry Director General (Europe Wing) Mohammad Khorshed Alam Khastagir was also present.
