French Ambassador visits Water & Life projects in Bashantek’s slum.
June 2nd - French Ambassador in Dhaka, H.E. Mr Michel Trinquier, visited the projects of the French NGO Water & Life supported by the French Embassy in Bhashantek’s slum, Mirpur.
In Bangladesh, Eau et Vie (French for « Water & Life ») works in poor urban areas in the fields of water, sanitation and hygiene in order to improve the precarious living and health conditions of slum dwellers. Water & Life adopted a comprehensive and participative approach in order to involve the community in its project which consists in building and managing a water supply network in the slum so that people will have access to safe and legal water.
During his visit, French Ambassador was given an overview of the projects the French Embassy had financed earlier this year: fire prevention and fire-fighting trainings and children books promoting hygiene and hand washing. These projects aim on one hand at improving community’s skills and behaviors in case of fire and on the other hand at raising children’ awareness on hygiene and hand washing.
