Concert Thibault CAUVIN, Shilpakala Academy - 05 November 2019
Speech by the Ambassador H.E. Mr. Jean-Marin SCHUH
Good evening, shuvo shandha ,
It’s a pleasure to be here tonight at the Shilpokala Academy, for the concert of an exceptional French guitarist Thibault Cauvin, a concert organized by the Alliance française de Dhaka.
Tonight’s event is another illustration of our common commitment to the promotion of the arts and to music in particular. We both share a rich heritage and are deeply attached to cultural diversity in a world even more globalized.
Let me introduce the artist.
Thibault Cauvin was born with a guitar in his hands, given by his father, himself a musician. And he followed the natural path from then on. He first studied at the Bordeaux Conservatoire and later at the Paris Conservatoire National Supérieur, graduating with honors. He became passionate about international competitions, the only springboard for a classical musician. Widely acclaimed for his passion and creativity at a young age, Thibault was only 20 when he won a total of 36 prizes (13 first prizes) – more than any other guitar player. He got more and more concert engagements. The world wanted to hear the young lord of the six strings.
Thibault has been touring extensively for 15 years, playing in the most prestigious halls in nearly 120 countries. He has performed 1.000 solo concerts with his unique guitar stirring the New York Carnegie Hall, the Moscow Tchaikovsky Hall, the Shanghai Concert Hall, the London Queen Elizabeth Hall and many others. Thibault in addition to his regular concerts has embarked on a « Magic Tour ». This series of performances has been done alongside world famous landmarks including the Eiffel Tower (in 2017), the Beijing Forbidden City, the Hague Peace Palace, the Quito ruins in Ecuador, the Marrakech palm grove, the Royal Great Beach in front of more than 40 000 people…
Tonight’s recital features Thibault’s tenth album entitled “Cities 2” released in September 2018 by Sony Music. This gifted musician has recorded discs by renowned classical composers such as Scarlatti, Albéniz and more recently, Vivaldi, which was recorded with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris at the Philharmonie de Paris. Thibault offers now a very personal project, influenced by other musical styles. Using various pieces written in collaboration with composers encountered along his "endless tour", he pays homage to world class cities that fascinated him.
We hope that Thibault Cauvin will be inspired by the vibrant city of Dhaka and that we will soon hear a composition celebrating the capital of Bangladesh.
Last but not least, I would like to thank our sponsors and partners who made this concert possible Onyx Banglasdesh, Gandharpur water treatment SNC (a joint venture of Suez International and OTV-Veolia, the Shilpokala academy and the Alliance française de Dhaka.
I wish you a very pleasant evening. Thank you
