A major cultural center


Alliance française de Chittagong is a major cultural center supporting local creation and exchanges with foreign artists.


Alliance française de Chittagong organizes regular photo and painting exhibitions and art shows -installations and happenings- in its gallery. It works in collaboration with local and national media as well as with other art and cultural centres in the city such as Shilpakala Academy or Bishaud Bangla. It encourages original creations as well as awareness campaigns.


Alliance française de Chittagong works with the photography school Photobank, led by internationally renowned photographer Shoeb Faruquee. It has organized major photographic exhibitions and workshops of renowned artists, including:

  • Anwar Hossain,
  • Shoeb Faruquee,
  • Alain Daniélou and Raymond Burnier,
Anne Garde,
Laure Vernière,
Pascal Monteil, and
  • Didar Alam.

Arts and Installations

Alliance française de Chittagong regularly organizes painting and sculpture exhibitions of renowned and talented Bangladeshi artists, including:

  • Mansurul Karim;
  • Alok Roy;
  • Dhali al Mamoon;
  • Chittagong University Fine Arts Department teachers and students;
  • Irtifa Ali;
  • Apu Dhar.


Since 1983, Alliance française de Chittagong has been contributing to adapting French theatre plays in Bangla, in partnership with the theatre groups Lokadal Tiryak and Fame:

  • Huis clos by Sartre, 2007;
  • Mariage forcé, 2003;
  • George Daudin, 2004;
  • Antigone, 2005;
  • La folle de Chaillot, 2006;
  • The Trial, 2007.


Throughout the year, Alliance française de Chittagong organizes festivals promoting cultural dialogue through the arts, with the support of the Embassy of France in Bangladesh:

  • La Fête de la Musique,
  • Le Printemps des Poètes,
  • La Semaine de la Francophonie,
  • French Film Festival.
